4 inventive treehouses that will inspire you

Home is where the heart is. So if, in your heart of hearts, you love nature, then a treehouse probably really appeals to you. Or perhaps the nostalgia of having one when you were a kid has you wanting to return back to that time. Either way, it's hard to deny how fantastic treehouses can be. For this blog, we're celebrating the greatness of these homes by listing four particularly inspired treehouses.

1. The Monstro

As far as tree houses go, The Monstro is one anyone can have - provided they have the money to pay for it, that is. A creation by company Daniels Wood Land, which has been running since 1977 in California, The Monstro will set you back around $40,000. Designed to purposefully look lopsided, the Monstro is the perfect treehouse for kids, and has been installed in both residential and commercial premises.

2. Free Spirit Sphere

If you ever find yourself Canada-bound, be sure to check out the the Free Spirit Spheres located on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Comprising three spheres in total, you can rent each one out for a night or longer (however you see fit). The longer you stay, the more costs per night reduce. Keep in mind, however, that the spheres are for adults only (due to liability limitations) and each sphere can hold up to a max of two people.

The diverse seasons and how they change the surroundings mean that renting out a sphere, even for a night, makes more some pretty memorable scenery.

3. Treehotel's Mirrorcube

In Sweden, a different series of three houses were put up for sale. An off-shoot of Treehotel, which was created by architecture firm Tham & Videgard, these Mirrorcubes are simply units that were made available for sale to those who'd rather live among the trees than the concrete. Embracing an invisible architecture philosophy, the Mirrorcube is less your typical tree house as it is a mirrored unit suspended among the trees themselves.

At the time of initial sale (2011), these were selling for around $380,000.

4. The Alnwick Garden treehouse

It's one of the most expensive treehouses in the world (it could, in fact, be the most expensive), but the $4 million to $6 million price point placed on the Alnwick Garden treehouse is worth every cent. It was created by The Treehouse Co. at the request of the Duke and Duchess of Scotland. But the treehouse is not some elaborate and expensive treehouse for royalty. Instead, it was built as another tourist attraction at the Alnwick Garden.

The treehouse sports a 120-seat restaurant (complete with a roaring fireplace in the middle), a retail store, two personal dining rooms, and two classrooms where plays and movies are shown. And, as per reviews, the food on offer is delectable. The bar is apparently fantastic, too. So it's a treehouse with many functions.
