Roof replacement: when you need one

A roof replacement is often performed when a roof has sustained notable damage or contains dangerous materials that have not yet been removed.

On occasion, however, there can be other reasons behind getting a roof replacement. In today's blog, we take look at some of the key reasons, including the aforementioned roof damage and dangerous materials.

Extreme damage

A roof replacement is typically necessary when your current roof has sustained such a large amount of damage that the only feasible solution is a total replacement. This damage could be apparent in a number of ways, from obvious signs such as a sizeable number of cracked/broken tiles or a rusting roof to more specific signs such as sustained water damage/roof leaks.

Minor damage will typically not require a roof replacement, rather some specified repairs to the affected area/s of the roof. Assessing just how much damage your roof has is important. If you're unsure after examining your roof yourself, you should call in a professional as they'll know exactly what to look for. They'll inform you of the level of damage, the possible solutions, and how much each would cost you and how they'd protect your roof in the long run.

Asbestos roof

Another good reason for having a roof replaced is if your current roof contains absestos. While asbestos won't pose any immediate dangers if properly secured inside the roof sheeting, it naturally will become a health risk if these sheets sustain damage or deteriorate over time - which most will. If you find your roof does contain asbestos, do not panic. Simply avoid the area and contact a professional roofer that is licensed to deal with asbestos removal immediately so that they can formulate a plan of attack. This will include slowly and safely removing the asbestos roofing, cleaning the affected area/s, and installing/constructing a new roof.

A desire for change

Somtimes, a roof replacement can occur simply if you want a change. Now, before going all out with an entirely new roof, don't forget that options such as restorations and/or a new coat of paint can give your roof a fresh new look for a potentially cheaper price. Roof replacements are best for when your current roof has either substantial damage or could pose health risks such as those that asbestos can. That said, a roof replacement can be worth the money when renovating your home.

In the end, however, if you genuinely want a new look and to start from scratch with a brand new roof, then the option of a roof replacement is always there for you.
