5 of Australia's Most Beautiful Heritage Buildings

Travel around Australia and not only will you be amazed by the amazing scenery and landscapes but also by the numerous architecture and landmarks that spot along the cities that mark their place. In this post, we share some of Australia’s most beautiful Heritage buildings to inspire you.

1 Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), Stanley Pl, Brisbane

Known to be one of the standout architectural triumphs in the past decade, Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA) threw its doors open in 2006 to a record breaking number of people garnering the high attendance numbers to any art gallery in Australia. Making its way one of the most beautiful heritage building in our Aussie history. The building itself is clever, with vast expanses of glass panelling all over that operate to ensure that all the masterpieces on display are protected.

2 Elystan House, New Farm, Brisbane

Built in 1907, on the 30.2m frontage of Elystan Rd, this historic home of 1519sqm is in the centre of West End. Reflective of the early 1900s - featuring period features such as pressed-metal ceilings and sash windows, all of which are gorgeously maintained.

3 Customs House, Queen St.

The present day remade Customs house was dated to open on 2 September 1889. In the opinion of a legion of seafarers it retained nevertheless the distinction externally and internally of being ranked among the most ornate and prettily situated Customs Houses of the world.

4 Brisbane Arcade

Designed by Richard Gailey (Jr), regarded as one of Queensland’s most important earlier architects. The building links Queen St to Adelaide St, and the design of the arcade reflects the archetype of the traditional arcade, which developed in Europe in the late 18th century. Architectural details of interest include the Edwardian Baroque-style street facades and among terrazzo stairs and ado panelling.

5 Brisbane City Hall

Once the tallest building in Brisbane, the iconic Brisbane City Hall is seen by many as the heart of Brisbane, and is an official symbol of Brisbane City. With beautiful, ornate features inside and out, Brisbane City Hall offers a breathtaking experience, and is a must-see heritage building.
