The Brisbane house built with 31 shipping containers

It sold for $1.42 million and sits by the Brisbane River in the suburb of Graceville a mere 8 kilometres from Brisbane's CBD. There was no doubt that such a house was going to sell for such a large amount of money, but this isn't just due to location. This Graceville-based home is truly unique and has set itself apart from the rest of the homes in the area. Because when your home is constructed from 31 shipping containers, people are bound to take notice.

This impressive architectural and engineering feat of a home was first made available for public purchase in December 2013 in the form of an auction. However, it secured its proper sale in July 2014. Needless to say, it sets itself apart thanks to its unique design and use of 31 shipping containers in construction. It totals three storeys in height.

Open design

The entire home was designed to embrace open spaces and to allow for the flow-through of natural light throughout the premises. This is coupled with expansive outdoor living areas that embrace Brisbane's tropical climate. These open spaces also help the home stay cooler during the warmer months as the outside winds can course through and reduce the mugginess.

This open design is most evident on the top level of the home, which exclusively consists of the massive master bedroom and its accompanying extensive walk-in-wardrobes, a reading room, two ensuites, and access to the upper deck.

But a stellar, open master bedroom isn't the only luxury this home has. It also features a mezzanine reading room, a pull out queen wall bed in the rumpus room, an art study, workshop, gym space, water tank, and saltwater pool.

Like many modern homes, it's been built to be solar ready and, as is often necessary in Brisbane, to the appropriate flood codes.
