Preparing your Roof for Summer

Summer can have a big impact on your roof. From intense heat to heavy rainfall and storms, summer’s weather can be unpredictable.

This is why you need to be prepared. In this blog, we’re sharing some simple steps on how to make sure your roof is ready for Queensland’s summer.

Clean Gutters

The first step is to clean your gutters. This is important for ensuring that water can easily drain off your roof during a storm. Blocked gutters can lead to your roof leaking, and water damaging your home. So it’s best to clear out all those leaves before storm season.

Trim Trees

If you have any trees or shrubs that are overhanging or growing close to your roof, it’s a good idea to trim them. This will prevent branches falling off and landing on your roof during a storm. It will also help to reduce the amount of leaves that collect in your gutters.

Remove Debris

Next, you’ll want to take a look at your roof and remove any debris. Look for big branches, sticks, or broken roof tiles. It’s also a good idea to secure any loose items in your yard that may blow about and become dangerous during a storm.

Fix Leaks

Have you noticed your roof leaking recently? Maybe you’ve seen damp spots, mould, or mildew building up inside your home? If so, now is the time to get it fixed! Even a small leak can become a big problem during heavy rains or storms.

Address Structural Issues

During summer, the extreme conditions can put a lot of strain on your roof. If your roof happens to have any current damage, this has the potential to compromise its structural integrity. Even a small structural issue can lead to significant damage during a storm, so it’s important to get it repaired before storm season hits.
