Scoop any debris first, then if you find you have a flooded downpipe, blast stubborn debris downwards with a hose and clear your pipes, or disassemble parts where they may be blockages. Make sure to have a bucket or tray situated at the bottom of your downpipe or underneath the part you’re cleaning out.

Search for leaks and corrosion

Check your roof, gutters and downpipes during and after storms. Deterioration to roofs and gutters can occur especially during storms. When cleaning out debris make sure to wear thick glove and protective eyewear to avoid cuts to hands and any debris from entering your eyes.
