September: The Perfect Time for Spring Cleaning Your Roof

Spring is here! While it doesn’t get too cold in winter here in Queensland, the winter months don't exactly prompt you to get out there and clean your roof. As the weather warms up and the threat of summer storms and rain are on the horizon, now is the perfect time to get out there and take a look at your roofs condition.

Follow your gut(ters) instinct

A few leaves and other bits and pieces don’t seem like a big deal if they’re stuck in your gutters. However, if you let these pile up over time it can compromise the efficiency of your gutter system.

Gutters manage the flow of rain away from your home during a downpour or storm, but if they’re blocked, the water can instead pool in the wrong place and even flow back into your house, damaging it inside and outside. Spring is the best time to check your gutters - as they may have filled with leaves and debris falling during the winter months.

A Spring Clean Roof

Over the year, all kinds of damaging materials build up on your roof's surface, often baked on by the sun. Debris, grime, moss and algae, as well as bird droppings, can damage your roof as well as any layers of protection that has been added to the surface.

So when you are cleaning the dirt and debris from your roof always choose the cleaning process that suits your roof materials. But if you're not sure, it's always best to consult a roofing specialist. You don’t want a little spring cleaning to end up doing more damage.

Discovering Damage?

Every year your roof should be checked for damage to things like tiles, ventilation, sky lights, joining sections, rust, and any gaps or other concerns across the roof. Checking for damage yourself can be daunting as the best way to check is to get on the roof. If this is the case, it might be best to leave this one to the experts.

By regularly inspecting your roof, you can prevent excess damage to your home during any surprise extreme weather occurrences, particularly as the weather warms up and storm season begins.
