3 great Brisbane Halloween events

Home is where the heart is, but it can also be where nightmarish creatures can lurk - at least during Halloween. With one of the year's most menacing days upon us, we decided it was only fitting to list three fantastic Halloween events occuring in Brisbane. Two of these come in the form of haunted houses - one for all ages, one better suited for adults only - and one comes in the form of a family-friendly outing in the park.

1. The Haunted Ranch

When: Saturday 31 October 4pm - 9pm
Where: 42 Ranch St, Tingalpa QLD 4173
Cost: Gold coin donation on entry

When the Horton family visited LA a number of years ago, they got to experience Halloween first-hand. Inspired by that experience, they launched the Haunted Ranch in 2008 as a small display. It has since gone from strength to strength and comprises more than 100 Halloween items throughout the property. There is a kid-friendly area and a scary area for the older attendeees. It's also for a good cause. Your gold coin donation goes directly to The Rare Cancers Australia's Sick or Treat Program.

2. Halloween Haunted Horror House

When: Friday 30 October & Saturday 31 October, 7pm - 11pm
Where: 63 Cecily St, Kallangur QLD 4503
Cost: Gold coin donation on entry

If you're seeking a more adult-orientated horror house experience, then the Halloween Haunted Horror House may just be the ticket you're looking for. Currently sporting a 5 star rating on its Facebook page, the folks behind this haunted house setup know exactly just how to scare the hell out of their attendees. One of its organisers, Bryden Bostock, recounts a couple of noteworthy freakouts from past years:

"In just our second year, a grown man ran screaming from the premises down the road. Then, last year one of our guests unfortunately was so scared he lost some control of his bowels. He still came back the next day and had a better time with fresh underwear. Then there's the recurring fact that our clowns have made people scream so much that our microphones couldn't actually handle them."

Suffice to say, this one is not for the faint of heart. But if you love a good scare, be sure to check it out.

3. Cr Shayne Sutton's Hocus Pocus Halloween

When: Saturday 31 October, 3pm - 6pm
Where: Bulimba Memorial Park, Oxford St, Bulimba QLD 4171
Cost: Free

On the truly kid-friendly side of the Halloween equation, there's Hocus Pocus Halloween, which will be held in the Bulimba Memorial Park on Oxford St. Spearheaded by Councillor Shayne Sutton, it runs from 3pm to 6pm and focuses on giving kids the chance to enjoy the Halloween experience. It's certainly a great option if you're not up for the trick or treating portion of Halloween. Be sure to dress up as there are fancy dress competitions, a disco and other family fun activities.
