There has been a tiny house movement in the last few years. Instead of upsizing, people all over the world have started downsizing, and for some that means their homes.
While not all of us could live in around 240 square feet, some people have cleverly optimised the space and made them into comfortable, rather than snug, little homes.

This floating tiny house in Maine is entirely off the grid. Hand built as a getaway rental, the designers decided they didn’t want to give up their little home, and so moved in instead. The house is 240 square feet.

Located right here in Brisbane, this tiny cottage used recycled Australian hardwood. It has 18 metres of floor space and a 3.5 metre ceiling and has a clever remote controlled floating bed, which rolls the bedroom and lounge space into one.

This tiny 12x18 feet house is made from 95% salvaged materials. Some of the materials are over 200 years old, which give the house it’s historic look. Located in Texas, this tiny prairie home looks like a mini version of other homes in the area.

This 17 square metre module home designed in South Africa comfortably sleeps two on the mezzanine level, with a multi-function room underneath. There’s also a shower area at the rear, a deck at the front and a pitched roof to maximise solar power.

In the heart of Somerset in the English countryside, Shepherd’s hut is one of 4 quaint homes that act as a getaway from daily life. You can rent out a hut and take in the river-side views and homely, comfortable interior. The huts are 20x8 feet in size.
